My pal, “Lobster Gal” Sally Lerman, loves herself a good lobster roll (fresh lobster meat only, preferably warm with just butter). Sally has made it her life’s mission to eat her way around New England sampling every lobster shack’s roll then blogging about it.
I joined Sally on the lobster trail last September to shoot pics (and eat rolls) for her recently published Lobster Gal book. We started in Connecticut down in Noank, made our way through RI, MA and NH on up to Maine, where we headed out to sea with some lobstermen on a serene, still water day at dawn.
Great meeting these hardworking guys from the lobstermen to the lobster shack owners.  A special thanks to two of Sally’s faves…The Clam Shack in Kennebunkport, Maine and Ogunquit’s Footbridge Lobster for spending time with us (and taking us out lobstering)! My favorite roll in Connecticut was Sea Well in Pawcatuck (they add leeks) and best for atmosphere was Chauncey Creek Lobster Pier in Kittery Point, Maine!
Below is the cover and are pics from our trip…see more images of the lobster boat trip with Chris and Tristan here.
The NY Mets wrapped up the 2014 season yesterday, so let’s look back to the beginning…back in February 2014 we made our 6th annual trip to Port St. Lucie, Florida to photograph portraits of the NY Mets players for SportsNet NY (SNY) and the NY Mets. It’s been so nice to see the players year after year…boyish, fun personalities are great to photograph!
Always a pleasure working with Julie, our terrific client at SNY. Julie and we sought to liven things up a bit this session to get more emotion, and we even got team captain David Wright to do a few push-ups!  Below are some pics and here’s to a winning season for the Mets in 2015! To see our past years’ NY Mets portrait shoots, click here.
CFO Christopher Swift helped fix the fortunes of The Hartford Financial Group since the dark days of the 2008 financial crisis. We photographed Chris for a CFO Magazine article on The Hartford’s turn-around story; here is a magazine tear sheet from our session at The Hartford’s venerable headquarters.
For six seasons we’ve photographed the New York Mets at Spring Training for SNY, the television home for the Mets and “and all things New York sports”. This year we wanted to elicit more fun from the players…so here are some of those playful shots–next week we’ll blog the more official portraits. SNY uses these photos for player ID in montages, batter up, and on the Jumbotron at Citifield. Thanks Julie for another super shoot! See more fun shots here!
We had the pleasure of meeting and photographing Heather Abbott, who lost her lower leg from the Boston Marathon bombing one year ago, for Marie Claire’s April 2014 edition. A super friendly woman, Heather has not only coped with healing herself, she’s been an inspiration to so many others,  A super friendly woman, Heather has not only coped with healing herself, she’s been an inspiration to so many others, sharing her story with the world from the Rachael Ray show to the season opener of the Boston Red Sox. We are excited that Heather will be part of Jane’s Reinvention project coming soon. Please visit Heather’s Recovery Fund site where you can read more about her progress and leadership. Way to go Heather!! See more photos from the shoot here!
We are in the thick of March Madness…and the UConn Men’s basketball team are kicking it! Let’s celebrate with some pictures of UConn’s basketball teams from our recent photo shoot at Gampel Arena for SNY with make-up by Nicole Moleti. These guys are as fun and nice as they look! GO HUSKIES!!!!  Click here to see more of the players!
A few months ago, we headed up to the Berkshires on a beautiful night to photograph Rinker Buck for Flight Training Magazine. Buck’s a writer and adventure junkie, who achieved fame back in 1966 by flying a Piper Cub plane across the US with older brother Kern when they were only 15 and 17. Yikes!
Buck’s book Flight of Passage is an intimate story of this cross country adventure. They had no radio and no lights. They just headed west following rivers and landmarks all the way from New Jersey down to Texas and over the mountains west into southern California. Later on they found out they were the youngest ever to fly across the US. Our son Sebbie is reading Rinker’s book now…note to Sebbie (and Jude): don’t even think about it!
We photographed Rinker next to a classic yellow Piper Cub in Great Barrington MA up the road from Buck’s home in Norfolk CT. Rinker’s a great writer and storyteller…he wrote for the Hartford Courant for many years. And he’s a really nice guy. Rinker’s latest adventure was traversing the Oregon Trail from my home town of Kansas City to Oregon in a covered wagon pulled by mules…look out for that book coming soon!
Great meeting and photographing Dr. Bruce Strober, one of the leading doctors in the area of psoriasis at UConn Health Center, for the cover of Plastic Surgery Magazine! Mike agreed to be “the patient” but you’ll have to check out the full article to see him online! 🙂 Above is the cover and then one of my favorite portraits that didn’t make it into the article.
Great to see this mentoring story in print in RBS’s (Royal Bank of Scotland’s) internal magazine, RBS World! Really enjoyed working with Arvin, Lynette and Hugh and Beetroot Agency!
